Embrace the Wisdom of Autumn: How Letting Go Transforms Your Life

As we move into the autumn months, isn't it beautiful to witness nature's transformation? Autumn has always been one of my favourite times of year—the vibrant colours, the playful celebrations of Halloween, and the deep-rooted traditions of Samhain. But what I find most profound about this season is the gentle reminder that change is not only inevitable but necessary. For change to take place, we must first learn to let go.

Autumn is our greatest teacher of letting go. There’s wisdom in every falling leaf, in every subtle shift in nature. And it’s not just about the seasons that mother nature offers us. We also experience seasons within our own lives—seasons of growth, challenge, and transformation.

Right now, I find myself in a season of surrender. Recently, I gathered with participants from one of my workshops, and we shared just how crucial it is to release what no longer serves us. As we move through life, especially as we recognise that there may be fewer years ahead than behind, letting go becomes not just an option but a necessity. It’s as though life teaches us that the lighter we travel, the more aligned we become with our true selves.

At our recent Reinventing You training weekend, we spent a lot of time on the art of releasing—letting go of the past and, most importantly, shedding the expectations we place on ourselves, others, and even the world around us. While this can feel challenging, it's also incredibly freeing. When we release the expectations we've set for ourselves or others—including the ones imposed by society or government—we create space for something far more powerful.

In my experience and the experience of countless clients I’ve worked with, letting go opens up space for our own wisdom to emerge. It’s in that space of stillness, free from the whirlwind of emotions that we begin to see opportunities for transformation, solutions to problems, and clarity we couldn’t see before.

The truth is, when we drop expectations, we are less likely to feel disappointed or let down by things outside of our control. This doesn’t mean we can’t hope for good things or look forward to positive outcomes. It just means we aren’t tethered to any particular result. When something doesn’t turn out as planned, we’re not left feeling like we’ve lost something. Instead, we build resilience and acceptance, allowing us to move forward with greater ease and less emotional turmoil.

As we continue our transition into autumn and then winter, I believe it’s more important than ever to release expectations. Use this time to strengthen your inner resilience and tap into your own wisdom, free from the storms of emotional upheaval. When you do, you may notice a glimmer of hope returning in ways you hadn’t imagined.

No matter what’s happening in the external world, peace is available to us in our internal worlds—if we don’t get caught up in the story of how life "should" or "shouldn't" be. That peace is waiting for you right now, beneath the surface.

So, I invite you to reflect: What one expectation am I carrying that no longer serves me? And what do I need to do to let it go? Then, simply choose to release it. Notice how much lighter and more peaceful life feels despite everything happening around you.

Wishing you a peaceful month ahead, full of new and beautiful possibilities.

With Love,
Avril 🤗💖
